The day is here. I’m unable to sleep right now. I’ve been trying but it seems that the butterflies in my stomach and the waves of nerves and excitement have different ideas.

I just had one of the most amazing and moving moments of my life and I really felt compelled to share it. I posted on Facebook a while back about a girl sitting on the sidewalk near my office. She was young and she so reminded me of myself. I had exchanged a glance with her and I wanted to do more, say more. I resolved myself in that moment that if I ever saw her again I would stop.
Never in a million years did I think the statement that I had started my day by running 5 k would leave my lips. I was wrong. That’s exactly what I did yesterday morning.
I don’t run fast but rather I pace myself at a nice even tempo. I will more than likely never win a race and that is a fact that I acknowledged and accepted a long time ago. I am okay with this.
A while ago I posted that there were big goals and personal challenges that I was working on setting for myself.
I’m going to divulge one of the biggest ones however I feel it to be in the best interest of anyone reading this blog to forewarn you that in this post I will be discussing things and posting pictures that might push the boundaries slightly.
In 2014 I saw 40 come and go in my rear view mirror and it barely caused a blip on the radar, let alone the tsunami of emotional grief I thought it would. In fact turning 40 did not bother me at all.
Lose weight and inches guaranteed while doing ‘other’ activities! Watch TV, knit, read, lounge by the pool and all the time be working up a sweat!!
*Cough* What? When did we become so disconnected as a society that we won’t even allow our minds to connect to our bodies to fully enjoy the exercise experience?
What happened to fun? When did growing up mean that we had to stop building forts on a rainy day, pushing each other on swings, laying on the carpet to play a board game or laughing so hard that our sides hurt?
Now, take that same idea of fun and apply it to working out. Suddenly it is not a thing of duty or chore but rather something that brings a smile to your face. Something where you can’t wait to get up in the morning to do it or where you’re counting down the days until you get to do it again.
No, don’t double-check the title of this post. You did read that right. As the clock winds down on 2014 and clicks over into the next 365 days I am wishing you all a Happy New You!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we taught positive body image in school? Imagine if we could do away with young people feeling like they don’t measure up physically against their peers? I know it would have gone a long way with me in school.

I know what you’re thinking and no, I’m not psychic. I have been there before myself. You’ve made it through Christmas relatively in one piece but you have indulged in the homemade baking goodness, the extra rum and eggnog and the tryptophan filled turkey beckoned you back for more than one helping.
Now you’re saying to yourself “Well I’ve already fallen off that proverbial wagon and the damage has been done so what’s the point of trying for the rest of the holidays?”
